What I enjoyed most about the Bones EP is how self-assured Young Circles seems when cobbling together its composite influences. Too often, up-and-coming bands fail to discern where the line exists between “doing your own thing” and “standing on someone else’s shoulders,” and the results are either really ugly or really cloying. Instead, this fledgling act mixes the art-house sensibilities of TV On The Radio and The Eraser-era Thom Yorke with the tripped-out oeuvre of Bradford Cox, Beck, and Wayne Coyne, and does so with maturity and dexterity.
