Honestly, this is one of the fascinating, tricked-out promotions I’ve ever seen an artist create in an attempt to fully engage a fanbase. It seems that indie-fied electro-pop auteur Dan Deacon has first worked up a tour poster that puts Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band to shame and then has deconstructed said poster and turned it into a contest for all of his fans.
The goal is to identify every single person in the poster (all 243 of them, though a few are provided for you), submit your completed answer sheet to postercontest@whamcity.com (incomplete answer sheets will not be able to enter the contest), and be the first person to do so. Your prizes are:
- $500 cash
- A Portrait of you painted by Dan Deacon
- One of the last copies of Wham City Box set #1
- A copy of each of Dan Deacon’s first 8 impossible-to-find releases (silly hat vs eagle hat, meetle mice, goose on the loose, a green cobra is awesome vs the sun, porky pig, twacky cats, live 2003, acorn master)

Oh yeah – the actual tour: Dan Deacon will be on tour from October 1st to November 15th, 2009 with Nuclear Power Pants. Much to my chagrin, the tour won’t be coming through Houston, TX (only Austin and Marfa), but if it’s anything like the Spring 2009 leg of the Bromst tour, you shouldn’t miss this show if it passes through your town.
