That’s the feeling that washed over me when I put on the new release from songwriter and singer, Elvis Perkins. Elvis Perkins In Dearland finds Mr. Perkins working with his touring band, bringing all new meaning and depth to the folk-abilly reflections of Mr. Perkins. The songs sound as though they could have been birthed in a basement studio, or, just as easily, behind the slanted shed, next to the outhouse. This is the kind of music that seems to have grown out of the ground. The songs are so simple they are undeniably true. They feel mythical. This is music that we all know, even if we haven’t heard it before.
