As a music critic, I often get asked what kind of music I review. I typically reply that I review whatever my editors assign me, mostly because that’s easier to explain than overwhelming someone with the details of I how I’ve cultivated a series of PR and label contacts that send me advance music of bands for me to hear. Honestly, I prefer not to pigeonhole myself by focusing on one or two distinct classes of music, as I attempt to maintain a diverse set of stylistic interests. More than that, I know that listening to and writing about music outside of my preferred spectrum will only serve to strengthen my compositional acumen.
