“Been Gone Too Long” is not just the album title, but an apt description of the travails of producing the CD, which was delayed just before completion by Hurricane Ike. Summed up by Larry Meeker, The Snake Charmers’ guitar player, “It’s like the Book of Revelations: It’s supposed to happen but not in my lifetime.”
The Snake Charmers, founded in 2002 by spouses Will Blumentritt and Marie Angell, are a 4 member contemporary blues band featuring Marie Angell (vocals/keyboards), Will Blumentritt (bass), Larry Meeker (guitar) and Eric Blumentritt (drums).
Been Gone Too Long is a collection of 10 original songs (written by Marie Angell) which feature slice-of-life songs in a variety of blues styles, from the sultry ballad “Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues” to the New Orleans-flavored “Big Big Love” to the good timin’ “(I Wanna Be a) Hoochie Mama.”
The Snake Charmers’ music has been featured on KPFT‘s Blues on the Move show and a variety of podcasts and Internet radio stations.
